Rural Culture Website

Added on: 19th February 2008

Summary:

RURAL CULTURE WEBSITE

http://www.ruralculture-em.org/  This site is a new service providing information about cultural projects and organisations in rural parts of the East Midlands. It focuses particularly on the arts, museums, libraries and heritage in the public and voluntary sectors. There are project case studies, a resource section, a contacts list and a new collection of Set Aside opinion pieces on rural culture written by writers from throughout the UK. All of the sections are organised by county, cultural activity and rural issues so that visitors can view the information in a way that is relevant to their needs.

Visitors can use the site to:

·         Join a network of rural arts and cultural organisations and make contact through our message board

·         Read case studies from inspiring and innovative rural cultural projects.

·         Find news about training, events, funding opportunities and new developments in local cultural and rural policy.

·         Read a new series of opinion pieces on rural culture by writers from throughout the UK.

·         Find a detailed listing of culture contacts and funding organisations in their own area and across the region.

·         Download reports, publications and guides and use the links section to find online resources and toolkits.

The site now hosts the on-line home of the East Midlands Arts in Rural Areas Network (EMARAN). This new network brings together people and organisations working in culture in rural areas. EMARAN is developing a strong advocacy, networking and communication role in this field, and has recently become a sub-group of the East Midlands Rural Affairs Forum (EMRAF), charged with developing the Active Communities aims of the Rural Action Plan 2007–2013. One of its purposes as a sub-group of EMRAF will be to feed back to EMRAF on news from the constituency; issues affecting arts, artists and arts organisations in rural areas – and input into rural policy making. Their page will have information about their work and upcoming events and a list of organisations active within the network.  A recent addition to the site is the Burns Owens Partnership Rural Creative Industries research. You can download the full regional reports and soon, you’ll be able to view a report for every district in the region. The reports present the trends, patterns and growth within the sector since 2001.  Visitors to the site can contribute to its content and can also sign up to receive a monthly update email.

Look out for one of our six new postcards showcasing projects from all over the East Midlands.
