Added On: 27th March 2008

Summary:Ek Rishta means a relationship in Hindi, the name being chosen to symbolise the importance of relationships between venues, artists, audiences and local communities. It aimed to tackle the under-representation of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) artists and companies within artistic programmes and of under-representation of BME populations within venue audiences. The challenging of assumptions, attitudes and values so that long-term change could be achieved was a central feature. The aim of the project was to advance culturally diverse theatre programmes and audiences in small and mid-scale venues in the East Midlands. It was led by Momentum Arts and formed part of Arts Council England East Midlands' Theatre and Cultural Diversity Plan.
